Tip 20: Eat Spicy Food
Chili peppers contain a substance called “capsaicin,” which triggers the release of hormones as a countermeasure to the kick which your body experiences. In a way, spicy food is like a mild and strange form of pain, but for many, like myself, it’s enjoyable. I love spicy food. Because it is that... pain... it releases endorphins.
Capsaicin connects to pain receptors and nerve cells in the nose and mouth, which in turn produce impulses that pass through the trigeminal nerve into the brain and create a burning feeling. When spicy food is eaten hot, it intensifies the effect even more. Besides the release of endorphins, spicy food also destroys pathogens and produces sweating, which is useful for the cooling down of the body in hot climates. When I was in Thailand, I ate a lot of spicy food. It was the regular thing to do; maybe that’s how that became imbedded in the culture there. The same counts for Mexico or India, to name a couple.
